Women in Clay is a unique ceramic artist invitational exhibition. The exhibit runs September 2-29, 2021 with the Opening Reception on Sunday, September 5, 1:00-4:00pm at the Cookeville Art Studio & Gallery;
186 S. Walnut Ave., Suite A in Cookeville, Tennessee 38501
Each ceramic artist was requested to create pieces based on a number of parameters listed, some of these potentially taking them out of their typical processes and as a way to challenge them:
CREATE 6+ WORKS OF ART:
• 2 must be wall pieces (at least 8”, but no larger than 3’ wide x 5’ tall – which can contain multiple pieces)
• 2 functional pieces (OR) “two sets” for display on table or pedestals (“sets” can be like a sugar/creamer; 4-cups or 4-plates; objects on a tray; salt & pepper set, or a sculptural installation like a row of houses/birds/etc.).
• 1 sculptural piece (floor or table/pedestal) either with content, a pure surface design abstraction, or with a functional intent
• Artist‘s choice – a vessel or piece of any kind of the artist’s choosing with no restrictions.
Within their six works, at least one must have:
• An obvious female component (figure, portrait, or body part).
• Texture: carving, sgraffito, impressing, or thick slip.
• Multiple colors (glazed, underglazed, stains, slips or terra sigillata).
• A Black & White (ONLY) piece.
• A mixed media piece with options like fibers; wood; wire; beads; organic materials; metal; found objects; printmaking on clay; cold processes or non-clay additions like painting, glitter, glass, stone, pins, toothpicks, shells, etc.
